Is Death What We Think It Is?

Here in the United States, typically when we consider the idea of death, certain images race to mind: darkness, sadness, and sometimes even terror. Not the kinds of things one looks forward to–especially as an inevitability. But why is it that way? We tend to think of death as the ultimate deposition of an organism; that the organism ceases to exist. But does it? Does the caterpillar die because it enters the chrysalis?
